NASA may know a lot about hydrogen production and storage but for renewable technology, hydrogen technology is still in development stages and have some way to be accepted in the energy industry. This is however changing quickly as governments and technology developers are getting their heads around the technologies and the benefits that changing from a carbon-based economy to a hydrogen-based economy will bring.

Visionary companies have seen that hydrogen is the only technology that has the ability to make renewable energy a reliable energy source where technology such as hydroelectric storage and electricity generation is not feasible.

The research and development efforts have not just been in the large scale electricity generation and energy storage but have been extended into other uses such hydrogen-fueled cars and the possible production of metals using hydrogen instead of metallurgical coal.
